MO'OLELE ~ The Leaping Lizard
This replica of an ancient wa'a kaulua (double hull canoe) was built
in Lahaina in 1975. Over 42 fee in length, with a maximum speed recored
at 20 knots, Mo'olele sails inter-island with a minimum crew of six.
She has traveled to the islands of Hawaii, Kaho'olawe, Lanai, Molokai,
and Oahu.
MO'OKIHA O PI'ILANI ~ The Sacred Lizard of Maui
At nearly 63 feet in length, Maui's Mo'okiha O Pii'ilani is designed
for transoceanic voyaging. With a capacity to carry a crew of twelve,
upon completion she will join Hawai'i's other voyaging canoes; Hokule'a,
Hawai'iloa, Makali'i, and Hokualaka'i in discovering the ancient art
of wayfinding.
